Processed meats have been in the news for some time now and gained some notoriety in terms of health problems but before we get into that, take a look at how some of these foods are made.
Processed meats are generally higher in calories than fresh meat so add to unhealthy weight gain. They also have high sodium levels which can lead to heart problems in later life. Research has shown that Nitrates used in processing also lead to lower insulin secretion that can cause diabetes and there is also a substantial increase in the risk of Stomach cancer associated with processed meats.
