Phonics Teaching Games : Phon-Egg Surprise

Phon-Egg Surprise

Using plastic egg resources, sounds or  words are placed inside. The eggs are then hidden around the setting for the children to find.   This is a great stimulus to start the lesson, with excitement being generated from the egg hunt. Small toys and treats can also be put in some of the eggs to add to the fun.

This activity works very well with younger children but if the children find it difficult to open the eggs the teacher might collect them all and open them for the children on returning to the quiet of the classroom.

The different colours lend themselves to differentiation of word difficulty. Some children may be directed to find a specific colour as the word inside will be graded to their reading level.

Resources needed: Plastic Eggs / Baskets / Word Cards
