Fine Motor Activities – Threading

IMG_1543

Activity: The threading of beads, buttons cotton-reels is a much loved activity by children in any kindergarten and its such an easy activity to replicate at home even if you don’t have the purpose made educational toys. The threading process develops hand-eye coordination and the smaller the threading hole the more intricate the motor movements need to be. It can also be extended for teaching Maths’ objectives such as pattern, counting and sorting.

Differentiation: Try changing the thread for thicker and thinner materials as well as using a variety of cotton reels, pasta, buttons and bead sizes. Shoelaces and string will be much more manageable to thread whilst fishing lines and cotton will make the activity more challenging.
