Swimming and P.E.

The children swim one time per week. They first learn to enjoy water and feel safe in and around the water. Games and toys are used with younger children that are frightened or wary of water to distract them and gradually help them to feel comfortable. Skills gradually progress to floating, kicking, breathing, and swimming as they move through the year groups. Years 1 and 2 focus on the front crawl stroke and swimming underwater. PE for the Foundation years focuses on Gross Motor skills such as balance, gait, movement and target skills, whilst PE for Reception and Years 1 and 2 is split into subsections that cover the whole scope of games, movements and skills progression. These are Athletics, Bat and Ball, Outdoor Adventures, Gymnastics and Dance.
