Focus On Phonics

This activity could be classroom based but for best results take the children outside as it adds to the adventure. The children are all armed with magnifying glasses (child-friendly of course) and they hunt around the play area of garden for word cards to read to the teacher. If you have a set of plastic bugs and mini beasts then attach the word cards to the underside and hide them in the garden amongst the flowers and bushes.

The words should be printed so small that they can only be read with the use of the magnifying glass. We love this activity because the children really have to focus to read the words and outside distractions are minimised.

Resources needed: Magnifying glasses / Small print word cards / Bugs
